About me
I’m a long-time yogi, published author, and copywriter with over two decades' experience in brand communications and publishing.
About Gabrielle Brown (you can call me Gabs)
I’ve lived and worked all over the world, and in and amongst my jaunts here and there (and everywhere), I’ve practised yoga and I’ve used writing to keep me inspired, fed, and grounded.
After graduating with a BA in English Language and Literature in 1999, I worked for some big names such as Vogue magazine (selling classified advertising space), and Oxford University (growing the publishing arm of the Bodleian Library), as well as for some lesser-known but fantastic organisations such as a private counter-terrorism intelligence and training company whose clients included police, military, and government departments worldwide (my job was to ensure the quality of the intelligence products and oversee internal and external corporate communications). After this, I ventured into self-employment, and here I am many years later.
I trained to teach yoga in 2013 after a decade of solid self-practice and in 2014 together with James Reeves formed Restful Being, a yoga and meditation training business, taking responsibility for all brand, marketing, and communications activities. Our book The Book of Rest was published by HQ (HarperCollins) in 2019 (hardback) and 2021 (paperback). As an author, I am represented by the Madeleine Milburn Literary and TV Agency.
I thought I had to choose between being a copywriter and a yoga teacher, but it turns out that was just a thought. In reality, my teaching enriches my writing, and vice versa. It is an amazing time to be a writer; the thirst for good-quality content and precise user-friendly, sincere copy is exciting. Equally, it’s a fascinating time to explore all aspects of health after the global pandemic made us all aware of our vulnerabilities, physical and emotional, and take steps to better look after our wellbeing.
I am so lucky to do work I enjoy, please don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss a writing or branding project or explore how my yoga teaching might work out for you or your organisation.
